I am a fan of all dogs, but mainly I'm a fan of my two dogs, Tia and Gwenyth. Both my dogs were pound puppies, and I strongly recommend going to your nearby shelter if you're thinking about a new pet. Alternatively, if you're looking for a particular breed, please look into breed rescue. There are so many wonderful dogs with hearts full of cheap unconditional love, waiting to give it all to you. That having been said, here are my two:
Tia is the older of the two (5 years), and the Senior Dog (meaning we acquired her first). She looks black, but if you get up close, she's really a dark chocolate/seal brown, with off-white shading. Half Labrador Retriever and half Chow, Tia is basically easygoing, lazy, and very friendly, although she has a hidden stubborn streak and, while smart, refuses to be trained quickly to do anything she doesn't feel like doing. While Gwenyth is more openly dominating, Tia is apt to be a quiet instigator ...whenever she decides to bother to give a damn. She's affable, fuzzy, and will follow you around hoping to be petted -- and if you don't respond quickly, she'll turn on the Star Quality, big eyes and wagging tail and all. If you're exceedingly dense or just focusing on anything else, she'll push her head under your hand and walk slowly under it, forcing you to pet her whether you want to or not. She's the one everyone seems to gravitate toward, since she's much like a plush toy dog come to life.
Gwenyth is the baby (3 years old) and the newer dog. She's half German Shepherd and half unknown (although I suspect Samoyed), and is exactly the color of non-dairy creamer; she also has big ears, big feet that she uses like hands, and dark skin around her eyes that acts like permanent eyeliner (making her eyes look big and almond-shaped). When we adopted her, her previous owners cited "unrealistic expectations" as the reason for surrender; after living with Gwen, we sympathize. Gwenyth has boundless energy and very little civilization so far. She's always ready to play, run, eat anything you may have carelessly left in her path, and vocalize eloquently to let you know her mind. She's also always ready to kiss, snuggle or play ring-tug, and will sleep next to you while Tia won't. Gwenyth taught me the true meaning of "dogging one's heels", since she's never away from my side if I'm at home. She's smart as a whip, very curious and NOT shy, so usually the vantage point you get of her is this:
